Baking Soda Tips When Cooking
If you have done nothing else with baking soda the one place you have probably used it the most it would be the kitchen. From baking to cleaning we all have used it in the kitchen a number of different times. We have complied some tips and things that you should know about baking soda to better prepare yourself for all it can do for you.One of the first things you will need to do is test your baking soda to make sure it is still good to use. They way you do that is by pouring a small amount of vinegar or lemon juice over an 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. If it doesn’t actively bubble, it is too old to use and go purchase new.
Here are some good tips to get the most out of your baking soda use in the kitchen.
1. Adding 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the other dry ingredients in a chocolate cake will give the cake a darker color.
2. To prevent cracking in homemade frosting add a pinch of baking soda before spreading on a cake.
3. Tenderize tough meat by rubbing it with baking soda. Let it stand for several hours, then rinse and cook.
4. Rub baking soda into the fat surround pork chops to make them crispier.
5. Tossing in a pinch of baking soda into potatoes while mashing them will make them fluffier.
6. Eliminate the gaseous side effects of baked beans by adding a dash of baking soda while cooking.
7. Add a pinch of baking soda to a cup of coffee to reduce it’s acidity!
